Mida Creek Conservation and Awareness Group (MCCAG) was formed by ASSETS (Arabuko Sokoke Schools & Eco-tourism Scheme) Guides in 2004. Mida Creek is located 6km south of Gede Junction from Mombasa- Malindi road. This is one of Watamu’s true hidden treasures: Mida Creek, a broadwater tidal creek surrounded by extensive mangroves and lined with palms.
This 32km2 creek has wide, healthy beds of seagrass and coral, home to many species of fish and feeding sea turtles, while in the mangroves smaller streams and inlets provide a refuge for crabs and birdlife. Mida is a stopover point for many migratory birds and an essential protected area for their survival.
This makes it one of the most important and beautiful natural attractions on the Kenyan coast. Mida is the best place to enjoy the sunset for an evening breeze, as the setting sun turns the waters to gold and flocks of roosting birds fill the sky.
Characterized by a simple and refined elegance, Mida creek offers a perfect environment for relaxing . At Mida Creek we offer a variety of activities as listed below:
At Mida creek we have professional guides who have the knowledge of the marine biodiversity (Flora and fauna) so by visiting the place our guides will teach you and make you enjoy in every part you will visit at the creek.
In our group at Mida creek we have beautiful hand craft that are made by locals and are sold at affordable price. Our group provides a huge array of products that will tempt the visitor to purchase that special memory of Kenya.
The board walk is 260m, the first 10 meters are stable while the whole of it at the centre is wobbly and dancing like Indiana jones. At the end of it there is a bird hide or (bird watching point). It’s a tour of one hour.
Apart from the board walk, we also organise canoe trips to the beautiful islands such as green Island famously known as the garden of Eden which is among the four islands found at mida creek. These tours are charged in hours depending on someone’s choice.
In the group we have a local restaurant and picnic site offering delicious meals cooked by professional chef which is being pre-ordered.
Our team is working hand-in-hand with other stakeholders e.g. K.W.S, Nature Kenya and KEFRI towards protecting the important biodiversity in Mida creek by planting and restoring mangroves.
In Mida Creek, the community also do fishing by using traditional methods but also in our group we organize fishing tour, not only that but also you can as well do sun birth, swimming and picnic.
After the excursions, you can also visit our nearby sites e.g eco-camp, eagle camp, kirepwe ruins, gede ruins watamu and nature camp
We welcome all who wish to donate, encourage, support and cooperate with us. Have a nice visit.
